Academic Authority

The principal academic body

The Senate is the principal academic authority of the University. Chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, it comprises the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, deans of schools, directors of institutes, the University Librarian and elected members of the academic staff.

The Senate regulates and directs the academic programmes of the University, sets and maintains standards for teaching, learning and assessment, approves the award of degrees, diplomas and certificates, and promotes research, innovation and scholarship.
